Leopardstown & Sligo Tips – 5.8.10
Horse racing tips for today’s action in Leopardstown and Sligo.
5.30 – Sligo
1 point WIN Mount Helican 2-1 bet365
This looks a two horse race between Mount Helican and New Rules. We’ll give the nod to Mount Helican on the basis that he has previous hurdles experience and has shown that he can act on a soft surface. His two recent flat efforts at Galway and Killarney were both very good runs and he should make a bold bid here.
6.05 – Sligo
Malande 1 point EW (4/1 Paddy Power)
Malande produced a decent effort a few weeks ago behind Impersonater (subsequent winner at Galway) at Ballinrobe. Desmond McDonough’s mare has shown a liking for soft ground in the past, so the recent heavy rain in Sligo should not bother her. In contrast, some of her opponents today may prefer quicker conditions.
7.35 – Leopardstown
Stephens Green ran very green on his debut, but ran a nice race staying on well behind Sindiyma. The North Light gelding did look a shade quirky that day, so he doesn’t look one for the mortgage. However, he should have learned from that experience and he could be good enough to win this maiden.
8.10 – Leopardstown
Zerashan looked a colt of potential when winning a Fairyhouse maiden in good style in June. The form of this race was well franked by the second and third. Subsequently, I was quite disappointed with this Michael Halford trained colt’s run at Leopardstown where he looked a shade one paced behind Notalossonya. Nevertheless, he is reasonably well handicapped and off a likely faster pace in a bigger field this evening, I won’t give up on him yet.
Lizzie Bennett is a standing dish in this type of event. She is quite exposed now but is slipping down the weights a bit. Last week she produced an eyecatching run at Galway, finishing strongly from a mile back. Well drawn today she should have the benefit of covering less ground by racing on the rail throughout. She could well stay on for a place.
8.40 – Leopardstown
Otterstown Lady was an impressive winner of the corresponding race last year. She is an inconsistent type and never featured in the Amateur Handicap at Galway last week. On her day though she is useful and had been in good form over hurdles earlier in the summer. Provided there is not too much rain, as she needs a sound surface, Otterstown could be capable of springing a surprise again this evening.
